Intro to Beadmaking: Fishing Lures! Saturday, January 18th 2-5pm

In this 3-hour class, students will learn how to safely use a torch and melt COE 104 soft glass rods to create beads. Learn how to form a glass gather and apply it to a mandrel, make stringers, and add surface decoration to your future lure bodies. We will make 2-3 small round beads, a barrel-shaped bead, and a “li’l swimmer” bead to build your lures out of! For a fully functional lure, attendees can choose to have their beads annealed (stabilized in a kiln) after class. Or, if lures are more for decorative purposes, attendees can plan to take them home once they’ve cooled!  If you choose to have them annealed, you will have the option to assemble your lures yourself, or we can do that part for you! We will add a glow-in-the-dark bead to each lure for maximum visibility! Annealed beads and lures will be ready for pickup by the following Wednesday.

All tools, glass, and safety equipment provided. Please wear long hair tied back, closed toe shoes, and avoid baggy sleeves. Be sure to bring water to stay hydrated, and paper and writing utensil if you'd like to take notes. 

Classes are formulated for adults. Kids aged 9+ may take a class alongside an adult; both child and adult must be individually registered to take the class. Ages 14-17 may take the class individually with a guardian's release.

Class Cancellation/Rescheduling Policy

Classes, once scheduled, are non-refundable. If you do need to reschedule, please plan to do so at least 3 days prior to your scheduled class, or a $15 rescheduling fee may be incurred. We ask that any rescheduling happens with as much advance notice as possible, however, we understand life has its extenuating circumstances at times. 

Any weather-related class cancellations will have the option to reschedule with no fee, or receive a refund.
